Internet Speed Test

Help tell the story of internet connectivity in eastern Ontario
EORN, in partnership with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) wants to measure your internet speeds. By taking the internet performance test you can help inform decision-makers and funders by sharing your internet speed information.

Background
Our governments want everyone to have good internet connectivity. They have established targets of 50 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. The federal and provincial governments have funding programs available to support broadband projects. Knowing what speeds citizens currently have available can act as baseline data for the region and show the improvements that are to come from broadband expansion projects underway now or are needed in the future. This is why EORN has partnered with CIRA, to collect the most detailed information relating to eastern Ontario’s internet speeds. 

Your privacy is important to us. Information from the speed tests is never sold or used outside of research for broadband development.

Instructions

When taking the speed test, you will be asked to answer a few questions related to your service. It will help in the assessment of eastern Ontario internet landscape in knowing more about the type of service you receive. You may also need to adjust the pinpoint which pops up on the map to your exact location to ensure accuracy of the data. This is adjusted by clicking the blue pinpoint adjacent to My Postal Code, which also brings up the set of questions.
For most accurate speed test results, run the test close to your home router and disconnect other devices that would use heavy bandwidth such as streaming, gaming and downloading. Shut down all applications on your device except for the browser running the test. Speed tests are most accurate done over a wired connection when a laptop or desktop is physically connected to a modem.
